Plumes Emporium is made up of a collective of more than 40 local makers and small businesses who have come together to showcase their products in a new and vibrant retail space in Golden Square.
Opened on April 1 2019, Plumes is located in what was formerly Woodman’s Garage in the 1950s – also informally known as Plumes Garage due to the Plumes oil that was once highly valued and sold here – hence our name.
Our stallholders are excited to have the opportunity to display and sell what they have created and/or sourced without the burden of opening and managing their own shop front.
Plumes is managed by a committee of eight of our stallholders who staff the store seven days a week, as well as look after the other stallholders’ needs.
Our product range is extensive and diverse: handmade candles, soaps, jewellery, artwork, knitted and sewn accessories, gift cards, jams and preserves, plants, crochet, baby and children’s clothes and toys, books, antiques, vintage and retro collectables, automobile signage, garden ornaments, wood and metalwork and a wide range of groceries and confectionery items. If you can’t find something here you like, we’ll be very surprised!
Both Golden Square locals and fellow small businesses around us have been very welcoming and supportive. Many are passionate about their locality and are excited to have a new business open in their area. They have also been enthusiastic and appreciative that we have revitalised a historic building while respecting its colourful and varied past. On that point, on the wall outside our front door is a heritage-listed road map (or mud map!) of Northern Victoria circa late 1950s – early 1960s, painted directly on the brickwork, which is a real talking point.
Plumes Emporium is open seven days a week so that everyone has the opportunity to visit and browse through the store to find something they like.
